MEMBERSHIP
Categories And Criteria

PACAWA membership is open to residents of Western Australian involved in the psychotherapy and counselling professions at either qualified or
training level. Membership is available in 4 categories - Full Member, Provisional, Trainee, or Informal - where the AssociationŐs minimum
requirements for training, supervision and clinical experience are met. PACAWA actively encourages members in the Associate categories to work
progressively towards upgrading to Full Membership.

FULL MEMBERSHIP
Member must have:
- A sufficiently relevant tertiary degree, and
- Completed 200 hours formal psychotherapy or counselling course over
2 years, and
- 500 hours supervised clinical experience post training over 1 year,
and
- 75 hours of clinical supervision, with 25 or more of those hours acquired post training, and
- 30 hours of personal therapy and/or self-awareness training.
Or, where there is not a sufficiently relevant degree,
- Completed 300 hours formal psychotherapy or counselling course over 3 years, and
- 1000 hours of supervised clinical experience post training over 2 years, and
- 100 hours of clinical supervision, with 25 or more of those hours acquired post training, and
- 30 hours of personal therapy and/or self-awareness training.
Or, where there is an undergraduate counselling or psychotherapy degree,
- 1000 hours of supervised clinical experience post training over 2 years, and
- 100 hours of clinical supervision, with 25 or more of those hours acquired post training, and
- 30 hours of personal therapy and/or self-awareness training.
Ongoing requirements for Full Members - 10 hours supervision and 10 hours professional development every 2 years.
ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP
Provisional Member must have:
- Competed 200 hour formal psychotherapy or counselling course over 2 years, and
- 50 hours of clinical supervision, and
- Monthly supervision if working with a caseload, and
- 25 hours per year ongoing professional development.
Trainee Member must be:
- Enrolled in formal training in psychotherapy or counselling, and
- Receiving monthly supervision if working with a caseload.
Informal Member must have:
- Significant training experience, and
- Monthly supervision if working with a caseload.
